the lazy, yet crazy days of summer

It's a combination of having nothing much planned yet feeling totally busy.  That's what summer always feels like to me.  I think just having everyone home makes it slightly chaotic mixed with playing the day out by ear.  Kind of fun.  So, with those types of days passing, not much sewing is taking place.  Oh, there's a little when I can escape upstairs, but it's awfully hot upstairs (my sewing room is the bonus room above the garage) and I tend to stay downstairs with the kids and where it's cool. My kids have awesome friends who have invited them to their pools and to the local amusement park.  I hope to be one of the parents that does more inviting when the baby gets a bit older.   Yes, I am aware that she is two and probably not a baby anymore, but because she is (probably) the last, I tend to think of her as a babe.

I got this book in the mail last week and I am so excited to try many of these printing projects out.  It's Lena Corwin's Printing By Hand.  Have any of you seen this book and if so, have you tried anything? I just threw it in my cart at Amazon trying to reach a total of above $25 for the free shipping and thought it looked great. Thumbing through it made me just giddy, so I'll add it to my fun to do list.   Hope you all are enjoying your summer days!

  1. Haven't seen that book in person, but definitely read about it around and it is supposed to be a good one.

Finding my days are similar. I like your description as a mix of the chaotic and playing it by ear. Perfectly perfect description. We've been bopping around ourselves to invites and visits--swimming, playdates and the like. I've been working at just getting my sewing area READY for sewing, but finding that task alone has been a bit slow going with the days stretching so long.

  3. I've seen this book before and thought it looked fun. I can't wait to see what you think of it and what you make - then maybe I will be adding it to my cart on my next amazon shopping trip

  4. Oooh, I had to wait forever to get that book from my library, and then had to return it 2 weeks later. Super sadness!

It's on my "wish list" and I'd love to try out 2/3 of the ideas in there.

I forget that i can take them to the grocery store... I'm really bad... I need to be the "come over" Mom more often... I think I just got in a bad habit when the twins were little.

  6. I own this book and highly recommend it. Amazon has the best price. Lena has a background in graphic design and textiles so the patterns she comes up with are visually exciting and fresh. She also explores all the different printing mediums and explains them in layman's terms. As a graphic designer, I look forward to experimenting with some of these techniques. Some are quite simple and involve little setup. She also includes templates. A great value if you compare it to how much each individual sewing patterns cost. She gives you lots of designs included.

  8. That looks so neat! Unfortunately I've got as much as I can handle on my plate. I always try to overdue it in the crafty creative part of my world.

  10. I checked this book out from the library and I LOVED it! The projects are fun and fairly simple, even someone like me with no experience was able do some printing. I ended up making a baby quilt...I used the techniques from the book to make my own design. Hope you have fun with it!
