still cutting and fusing

I got the fabric for the Birdie Sling while on my trip to Utah. My sister in law happened to have an extra pattern and was generous enough to give it to me. She told me that the prep for it took longer than sewing it. I am going with that theory since it is taking me so dang long to get this bag ready to sew. I, of course, am doing it a few minutes here and there so I can't really tell how long it's taking me. I am banking on the fact that the prep work is harder than sewing it. I hope I am not alluding myself.

Here's the fabric I chose for the outside fabric - it's from Joel Dewberry's Deer Valley collection.

The lining is Hey Sugar by Cosmo Cricket.

And, the handles are Swanky by Chez Moi for Moda.

Now that I have described the whole thing, let's hope I really get this bag done. I am loving it's potential!

  2. I just made one of these last week. They are pretty easy, and super cute! If you can, get a magnetic snap as it doesn't have a closure otherwise. Also, the pockets are HUGE and borderline obnoxious. I ended up going back and sewing a seam up the big pocket to make 2 smaller ones.

Hope you love it! I do!

  13. Great Fabric! Often I find the prep work does take longer than actual sewing for many projects, so I'm sure that will be the case. Good luck getting it finished.

  14. Hi there! De-lurking to say I love the fabrics you picked out and that I've made this bag twice and just love it. You're right in that it the prep work seems to take FOREVER, but once you start sewing it together it comes together pretty quick, and the end result is so worth it. I use my bag everyday and get compliments all the time. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  15. How I love Amy! Everything she does is lovely and to make something from her patterns is so much fun. I am coming out of the shadows at all the blogs I visit and asking them to come over and see me sometime. So come see me sometime.
